An Epiphany For An Atheist

What does it matter if there is not an afterlife containing my consciousness and death is truly death? My fate is still no better or worse than any of the high or low born in human history. As a benefit, my energy and matter will pass on to a myriad of other forms. Some of it living, some of it elemental, but all of it organic in the clockwork of the universe. Eventually, part of my energy will be part of a gamma ray blast that will light up the rest of the universe. What better fate is that, really?

End Of Empire--Has Fascism Come To America?

Am I the only one who remembers movies from the '80s that predicted a future of total government control, with cameras everywhere, police armed with machine guns, restrictions on free speech and movement, shutdown of protests, an iron grip on the media, and the rule of a plutocracy? All done in the name of making everyone "SECURE."

The only thing that differs from that dystopian vision and today is that in those movies, it always seemed to be night time, or the characters were living in burnt-out buildings.

Otherwise, I think we are living in those times, and it's going to take a hell of a lot more than a few scrappy kids wearing bandanas, sporting punk haircuts, and playing in a gnarly rock band to change things.

Liberals Are The Real Men

This is the introduction to a topic I've been thinking about for a long time. And I've intentionally taken aim at men and not women. The reason, I think, that too many men will not vote for liberals is because they think it's not manly to do so and NOT because they disagree with liberal positions. I intend to make this a running theme for this blog.

For example, I think it is courageous to stand up for and care about the less fortunate, the weak, the poor, and the powerless in this country. That is a liberal value. A MANLY value. I think it crass, weak, and un-American to celebrate greed and adhere to an I-got-mine-let-others-do-the same-or-go-to-hell attitude.

Lost My Religion--No, I Don't Need Help Finding It

Time to come out of the religious closet. I'm an atheist. An atheist is not someone who doesn't believe in a god, but someone who believes there is no god. Of any kind.

In American society today, we are viewed as nuts, cranks, elitist, and/or just plain evil. I hope to help change this view and make it not only acceptable to be an atheist, but thought of as a way of life that is as upright and respectable as any other.

Vader's Last Day

Emperor Palpatine's right hand man (or is it left?)  announces his resignation due to disillusionment with the Empire's goals. The Emperor responds that Mr. Vader's statements do not reflect the Empire's values.

America--End Of Empire?

I first thought of this concept in the past few months.  I did some research and found that several bloggers had already began posting. I excuse myself because I've only just begun blogging. My feeling is that this is a concept that has begun filtering through the collective subconscious. I think we can expect that the ignorant (read: chickenhawks, faux patriots, religious nuts) will not only deny this state of affairs, but dismiss the very idea of it ever happening in the future. All the while denying that America is an empire in the first place.

America Has Lost Its Collective Mind

Much like the Roman empire's, our leaders have become corrupt, many times openly so. They have also opened a can of Crazy Ass that seems bottomless. The American media are their enablers, Corporate America has become their paymasters, and the middle class has become their victims.
